In collaboration with Chris Durr, We set out to make a spec piece with a focus on 2 things:
1. Dynamic subjects with emphasis on movement.
2. Keep it simple, have FUN.
Over the course of some months we were able to refine an idea, assemble a handful of badass creatives, makers, doers, and dancers. We hung out, scouted, dreamed, and schemed until the pieces of the puzzle fell off the table… RIGHT into place! (gotcha!) I’m really proud of what we were able to make.
(Special shout out to Chris for reaching out/ helping me think in a more sophisticated manner when it came to approaching a project like this. I really enjoyed his helpful nudges, razor sharp eye, and elevated perspectives particularly in the details when we were in the weeds on things. Check out more of Chris and his work here)
Having the ability to source unique assets front to back on a project is something we rarely have the opportunity to do. Whitney absolutely crushed the custom wardrobe and color coordinations based on locations. (she even made a new shirt out of a BED SHEET on a quick pivot in one of the fittings- what a legend!) Thanks to Nancy/Zen we were able to source some fantastic dancers who were such a pleasure to work with. Zen also scored us our kung-fu location thanks to his charming smile (and the fact that he knew the owners personally, ha!)
I could go on for days about how refreshing this project was, or how keeping an emphasis on having FUN has completely shifted the way I’m thinking about my job, OR how each of the collaborators/crew completely dominated their specialties and were an absolute JOY to work with…but I’d rather tell you all of those things over a rice krispy treat, coffee, Philly cheesesteak, etc. You should call me and we should hangout- I wanna hype these peeps up- they deserve it!
Anyway- We cooked up a :60 spot, Chris pulled some motion stills, I made some stills and goofed a little on some stuff (you’ll see) then we wrap it out with a fun little BTS section in the theme of my 7-8th grade bedroom wall that held random magazine clips, photos, etc.
Enjoy!
